Posted by

Being an LED Lighting company that supplies energy-efficient products to the nation isn’t enough for us here at LED Monkey HQ. No, we want your experience with our company to be an interesting and enlightening one, too! That’s why, from time-to-time, we like to create articles like this that really lift your spirits, so read on for our five inspirational lighting quotes…

Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin Luther King Jr.

An American Baptist minister and activist who became the most outspoken advocate of the civil rights movement, Martin Luther King Jr. kicks off our list of memorable quotes with:

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”

A much-respected public figure and orator, Martin Luther King Jr’s most famous “I Have a Dream” speech was delivered on August 28th 1963, during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, in which he called for an end to racism in the United States.

Bram Stoker

Bram Stoker

Abraham “Bram” Stoker was an Irish author who’s best known for his classic novel of the Gothic genre, Dracula.

“There are darknesses in life and there are lights, and you are one of the lights, the light of all lights.”

While the quote is understandably attributed to Stoker the novelist, the words are actually “uttered” by his character Doctor Van Helsing to Miss Mina Murray, after she has furnished him with some vital evidence concerning her friend Lucy’s mysterious illness

Walt Whitman

Walt “Don’t call me Gandalf” Whitman

American poet, essayist and journalist Walt Whitman was known as a “Transcendentalist” whose most famous work, the epic Leaves of Grass, transformed the landscape of American poetry forever.

“Pointing to another world will never stop vice among us; shedding light over this world can alone help us.”

Whitman died in 1892 at the age of 72, but his words have lived on in the hearts of poetry-lovers ever since.

Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey

American media proprietor, talk show host, actress, producer, and philanthropist, Oprah Winfrey has inspired a generation of women with her eloquence and strength. In the mid-1990s, she reinvented her tv show, shifting its focus from the original tabloid/sensationalist format to literature, self-improvement and spirituality and this quote reflects that change.

“You have to find what sparks a light in you so that you in your own way can illuminate the world.”

Desmond Tutu

Desmond Tutu is a South African Anglican cleric and theologian, best known for his work as an anti-apartheid and human rights activist. This quote certainly inspires us to have an optimistic outlook on life.

“Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness”

NOT by Plato!

While we did say there were five inspirational quotes, we couldn’t leave before letting you know about one that we were planning to use but didn’t:

“We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light.”

Plato (L), NOT saying this to Diogenes (R).

It was supposedly spoken by Plato, the philosopher from Classical Greece. However, the article below is adamant that it was nothing to do with the old fella! Have a read; the writer makes quite a convincing case!
